Traits-
Yautja can live up to 950 years old. The females are often larger than the males, and can stand from 6'3" to 9' tall, while the smaller and weaker males stand from 6'2" to 8' tall. On average, a yautja in good health can weigh about 250 to 650 lbs. The Yautja possess scaly skin which grants them some protection from weak attacks, as well as powerful claws and mandibles with which they can fight opponents, when technology is not allowed. The powerful leg muscles allow Yautja to leap about 20' up and 25' across on average. The natural eye-sight of the Yautja is motion-based, not white light like humans, but this can be supplemented with the use of their mask (see below). Due to their physiology, they are highly resistant to heat and fire-based attacks, as well as radiation and electricity. They also possess the ability to almost perfectly mimic the sounds of other creatures or noises.
They appear humanoid - have two arms, two legs, and two eyes. Eye color is usually green or yellow. They possess long, black claws, 4 clawed toes, thick bony skulls, broad shoulders, and large biceps. Their back is mostly bone, with small bony plates protecting spinal column in lieu of the scales found elsewhere on the body. Their mouths have four mandibles around them, much like a set of lips. Vertical slits of its mouth open wide to reveal inner teeth. These mandibles are used for communicating much like a cat uses it's tail to communicate it's mood. They give off a musk that other Yautja and some animals can detect - but humans cannot. When canines sense them, they usually whine with heads down. The Yautja's scent for aggression is an oily, bitter smell. Yautja have reptilian skin of mottled red, green and yellow patterns. Their blood is a dark phosphorous green and can neutralize acid in equal amounts (1/2 intensty). They are very lean and muscular, due to their lifestyle - obesity is almost never heard of - the unfit rarely survive long enough in their harsh society. Yautja have long hair that is braided into dreadlocks in an extremely painful ritual taking months to perform, after a few years the hair strands bond into one solid piece through a combination of pressure and chemicals used to treat the braids.
History: The Yautja are en extremely advance race of hunters. Though the planet they developed on is not known, it has been discovered that they visited earth in the past and influenced such civilizations as the Mayans and Egyptians. During this time, they set up the laws of the hunt on earth and used humans to incubate Xenomorphs that were to be hunted later. It is not known exactly why the Yautja left earth, but lone hunters and sometimes full parties still frequent the planet for special hunts.
Culture:
The society is based upon a set of laws designed to aid in the hunt, with females being the most powerful of the race (Matriarchy), while hunts are usually led by males.
The caste system of the Yautja race is commonly as follows:
Eta: The untouchables of the Yautja. Mostly they are the lame or the crippled, who are unable (or too cowardly) to join the hunt. Instead, they serve as slaves and do menial jobs for the hunters. They are ridiculed and humiliated on a daily basis by the other Yautja.
Unblooded: Young Yautja who have recieved training but have yet to gain the status of blooded. They will move to the next rank after their first hunt. Challenges to the death are forbidden amongst unblooded, but claw-challenges are accepted. Also, hunting pyode amedha is forbidden. They are the bottom rung caste for a healthy Yautja.
Young Bloods: Recently blooded Yautja. They are young, reckless, full of ambition and feel full of pride once they have collected the skull of their kill, which amuses the more experienced hunters.
Blooded: The only difference between the Blooded and the Young Bloods is that the Blooded have more experience but are still not classed high among the great hunters.
Warriors: Violent, respected, solo hunters with high Yautja technology. They travel the Universe to find honorable hunting.
Honored: The Elite of Yautja society. They have earned more kills than the average hunter and are skilled in all ways of the hunt.
Ancients/Elders: The greatest Yautja that have ever lived, they have survived a thousand hunts. They have hunted so much that they look for other means of sport. Consequently, they are more compassionate and disciplined than most other Yautja. Many have learned new fighting techniques over the ages. These represent less than 1% of the entire population.
Arbitrators: Yautja police that mainly consist of Ancients who are bored with the Hunt. They represent judge, jury, and executioner. There are no appeals to their decisions. This is the highest caste one can belong too!
Bad Bloods: The criminal caste. These are usually serious nutcases even when compared to your average Yautja. Many have committed crimes such as murder of another Yautja, killing prey that is not game or failing in the hunt. The "Arbitrators" are constantly tracking these.
Revered: A special caste, these are Yautja that possess abilities far above the norm of any Yautja, whether they be mutants, psions or something else.
Caste system withing a Hunting Pack[/u]
Alpha - The leaders of a pack are the Alpha male and the Alpha female. They hold the allegiance of the rest of the pack by continually asserting themselves over their offspring from birth through maturation. When traveling, the alpha male usually heads the pack and chooses the route.
Beta - A beta male lowers his head when around the alpha pair to let them know he will obey them, but otherwise is an experienced hunter. They are essenyially a second-in-command.
Subordinate - These are usually young Yautja, but occasionally are former alphas who have lost their positions. If they remain with the pack, subordinates play a strong and important role in helping care for and feed others.
Omega/Scapegoat - In large packs, there is often a lowest-ranking member who becomes the focus of the pack's social aggression. This Yautja seems to be a scapegoat and may actually become an outright outcast. This may be part of the process by which pack members disperse and become independent, rather than remain at the bottom of the pecking order or on the fringes of the pack.
Lone Wolf - A young adult which has left the pack. It may find a new, suitable place to live and mate.
Some common laws adhered to are as follows:
Hunting of the prey must be done with only the appropriate weapons to even the challenge. The use of weapons when unneccessary is seen as a sign of cowardice, as well as overkill.
Ignore unarmed prey or young that serve as no threat, to do so otherwise is seen as unhonorable. This does not count if the prey's own body can be considered a weapon.
Hunting parties are a brotherhood, all members must contribute to the duties as assigned by the Alpha leader who is always right.
The Alpha leader is shown respect by bowing one's head upon entering a room.
Challenges to other Yautja must be accepted and met with barehands or with agreed upon terms; but only when the situation isn't dangerous to the hunting party
Trophies are to be collected of worthy kills, usually skulls. However markings, brandings, or tattoos are also commonly used.
Seppuku is committed when a Yautja loses a battle in an unhonorable fashion or life-death predicament. Examples include a Yautja warrior falling to its death or being pinned beneath a fallen tree/boulder. This suicide-ritual is also practiced when a Yautja is acting secretly on a mission and is faced with similar predicaments.
Impregnated prey cannot be killed and must be spared to maintain the population of the prey.
Respect another's hunt, if prey is wounded by another hunter, then it is their claim - ask permission to join first. Joint-claim trophies are marked by each member involved.
Respect another Yautja's hunting zone - ask permission before hunting in their zone, otherwise punishment is as rightful owner sees fit.
Alpha leaders are the first to set foot upon the hunting grounds, upon departing from vessel. Alpha leaders are always less-equipped than any other Yautja.
Submission is only done as a sign of utmost respect of one's ability or to replace a trophy personally destroyed by the submitting hunter.
If mercy is given by a superior hunter, then accept it - to do otherwise is to disrespect their abilities. The prey is no longer considered prey and is granted a trophy. In extremely rare, cases prey may even become members of the Hunting Party, but usually only when the Prey is blooded by a dying Warrior or higher caste member.
Prey that has defeated a Yuatja hunter is no longer considered Prey by the beaten Yautja's Hunting Party forever. However a different Hunting Party has the option of respecting the Prey's status or testing it (i.e. hunting it).
Cowards or those disrespectful of honor will be dealt with by the Alpha leader or an Arbitrator.
When hunting for food only, hunt the weakest prey, to insure the stronger prey can survive to insure a better game hunt.
Hunting Equipment: When on a hunt a Yautja will often be armed/equipped with a variety of the following.
Wrist Blades - The Wrist Blade is the weapon of choice for most Yautja. Twin blades (or occasionally triple blades) with jagged double edges and sharp enough to tear through bone, are effective against large and small opponents. Using the Wrist Blades show Yautja pride, because they prefer melee combat fights - face to face. The blades range from anywhere between 12 and 18 inches long and are retractable from a wrist gauntlet on the arm. They are forged from an unknown alloy, which is almost unbreakable, but not totally immune to acidic Xenomorph blood. The blades are activated via a wrist trigger.
Dark Blade Clan Wrist Blades - This weapon, inique to the Dark Blade Clan, has plasma-forged blades of extended length and exceptional resilience. The wounds left by these attacks are exeptionally deadly.
Ki'cti-pa - A lower-arm mounted, knife gauntlet that can extend a pair of armblades. The blades are hinged, allowing the Yautja to separate the two blades from 2" to 8" apart, in addition to being able to be launched individually at up to two foes within a range of 50'. The blades can be retrieved and reused. The blades can be composed of different materials, but only upon special requests. Weighs 6 lbs. and are standard issue.
Combistick - This elegant weapon is mostly used when facing several foes or tougher aliens. Like the wristblades it can be used while cloaked. The Staff (or Combi-Stick) is a self-powered telescoping spear that is merely one meter at its shortest length, but extends by two meters at each end. The combi-staff makes a formidable weapon for close range attacks, due to its length customization. It can also be thrown, to puncture through a target. Made of nearly unbreakable alloys, sharpened tips on either end produce electrical charges as it slices through any surface. The preferred weapon of the yautja, the combat staff has many uses. It can be used as a poleax, or wielded as a staff or spear. It is also a ranged weapon, capable of firing javelin -like projectiles at opponents. The staff can be used to bludgeon foes. It also houses a speared tip on one end that can do edged damage, in addition to a projectile tip from the other end. The projectiles tip can fire a small Y-shaped, sickle head or a burst of 6" needles as needed at any targets within 500'; the limit that can be fired is 4 sickles and 3 needle bursts before the supply must be replenished or retrieved and reused. When not in use the staff can be retracted and kept on the back in a holster for quick withdrawal if needed. Weighs 15 lbs.
Dark Blade Clan Combistick - The Clan's unique variant of the Combistick is supremely tough and has extendable blades which combine to deliver devastating attacks.
Naganita - Much like the oriental weapon of the same name. It is a ceremonial polearm with a slashing blade on the end.
Glaive - The Glaive is very similar to the Naginata - and may even be the same weapon, but adopted by a particular clan and personalized to each bearer - and is a very effective long-reach polearm. It is twin-headed, capable of being spun a high speed and delivering a rotating barrage of slashes to an opponent.
Dark Blade Clan Glaive - The Massive plasma - forged blades of the Clan's specialized Glaived are barbed to inflict terrible tearing injuries.
Speargun/Dartgun - This is the predator's sniper weapon. It fires small and extremely sharp metal pieces. It's a good weapon for long range sniping since the sharp projectile can reach extremely high velocities and linear trajectories. These characteristics also make it a piercing weapon. It can also attach their flesh, like a nail-gun, to a wall or solid area.
There seem to be more then one model of the Spear Gun. The original design was seemingly built-in as part of the armor or gauntlet - similar to the Gauntlet Plasma Bolt - while the newer version is a separate hand-held pistol, possibly even ranged with visual scopes.
It is the perfect silent ranged weapon, with some types of the weapon capable of firing multiple projectiles at opponents. Culturally hunting with it is of little or no honour, being mostly used to reduce numbers and isolate the main prey.
Miniature Dart Gun - a small, portable tube about 1' long that fires darts via compressed gases. The darts are usually tipped with some sort of poison. Weighs 1 ounce and can hold a payload of three darts.
Harpoon - A bladed polearm at 7' long and 8 lbs., primarily used for underwater hunts. The blunt end of the polearm can fire a small arrowhead via compressed gases with a payload of 12. The bladed tip of the harpoon does edged damage to speared prey. Weighs 8 lbs.
Dark Blade Clan Spear Gun - The Dark Blade Clan's personal speargun is a high-powered projectile of the variant spear gun which uses advanced technology to hold up to thrity spears.
Netgun - The Net Gun is small and usually reserved for ambushing a group of prey, when entering a major combat area and the temporary incapacitation of a subject is necessary, it is a highly specialized weapon used for capture or as a sadistic way of hunting. The net gun is not a projectile weapon, instead launches a web of razor-sharp wire powerful enough to propel a target to the floor/wall and pin them. This weapon can be used in two modes. The first doesn't kill and is used for capturing the prey. And the second mode consists of surrounding the prey and squeezing it to the death viciously cutting into the flesh. If the target tries to struggle the damage increases, and this keeps up until the subject is released or is killed. The net can also release on a trigger from the weapon. This weapon is almost useless when facing a large number of opponents. Range of 100'. Weighs 8 lbs.
Scatternet Gun - A large, bulky, plasma rifle that fires a solid-energy net at opponents. Payload of 15 nets with a range of 160'. Weighs 10 lbs.
Dark Blade Clan Net Gun - The only thing that differes this from the natural net gun is that it its fired from the wrist rather then from an actual gun.
Shoulder Mounted Plasmacaster - This is the most efficient and versatile weapon of the predator's arsenal. It can be used on almost every occasion, it fires a plasma charge that has explosive properties, the weapon is capable of disintegrating most opponents. The charge is directed by a targeting system, which is able to make path correction after the charge is fired. It can be described as an assault weapon used on heavy confrontations while leaving the hands free. This ranged energy weapon is controlled via the targeting system in the helmet. The weapon is fired either by a mandible controlled trigger in the helmet or by a trigger on the forearm. The plasma caster has a range of 1000'. Weighs 20 lbs. and is standard issue. There is also a weaker version of this weapon mounted on the Forearm.
Dark Blade Clan Plasmacaster - The clan's specialized variant of the Plasmacaster fires bolts which explode across wide areas with devastating force. It is also capable of firing variant blasts such as incindiary and anti-tank type blasts.
Dual Shoulder-Mounted Laser Cannon - a variation of the Shoulder-Mounted Plasma-Caster; this weapon consists of two laser blasters that home in on one target; used primarily for harvesting extremely dangerous prey and war, but otherwise acts the same as the Shoulder-Mounted Plasma-Caster, but with increased range of up to 5000'. Weighs 12 lbs.
Forearm Plasma-Caster - similar to the shoulder-mounted unit, this attachment is used often for closer encounters, with a range of up to 400'. Weighs 2 lbs.
Blazer – Another shoulder mounted weapon, the blazer fires a high powered cutting lazer that can be swept around while firing.
Forearm Laser - This attachment is similar to the Forearm Plasma-Caster, but fires lasers instead and is designed for greater range than power, aiming up to 2000'. Weighs 2 lbs.
Plasma Pistol - The plasma pistol is a more powerful version of the plasmacaster. It doesn't have a targeting system and is a hand held weapon. But in compensation it possesses a more powerful explosive potential which makes it a good choice for simultaneously killing clusters of enemies. It must be used with care because if the target is near the explosion could harm the carrier.
Scattergun – The Predator version of a shotgun like weapon, the scattergun fires many tiny shots each approximately two-thirds the power of a standard plasmacaster round. This weapon is effective for taking out many opponents at once with little threat to the user at close range.
Smartdisc - One of the most advanced pieces of equipment carried by the yautja, the smart weapon is a flat disc shaped weapon which can be held in the hand, or thrown at an opponent. The disc is another of the targeting device oriented weapon. This device is capable of cutting through most substances with its devastating razor edges, and is powerful enough to cut through multiple targets with one throw. Computer-controlled gyros guarantee that the disc returns to its wielder, but if it becomes embedded in a solid material it can be returned by the push of a control-panel button. The upside of it is its extremely high piercing potential and the great downside is the slow firing rate. The disk does damage when thrown via a vibro-field used, but when hand-held it only does damage from the metal edges, as the field cannot be used when held. Has a total range of 100'. The disk weighs 3 lbs.
Dark Blade Clan Smart Disc - The Clan's unique Smart Disc has blades which vibrate at subsonic frequencies, giving it unmatched cutting power. Its advanced targeting matrix can store the locations of up to four enemies at once.
Bladedisc - A faster version of the Smartdisc, the blade disc has a smaller center with many blades approximately a foot in length radiating out from around it.This weapon lacks the auto aim of the smartdisc, but flies as fast as it is thrown and returns to the weilder if possible. Either Disc can be used as a hand to hand weapon, but the bladedisc is preferred if it comes down to this situation.
Shuriken - Small disks that, when thrown, will unfold into star shurikens and injure foes within a range of about 100'. The shuriken weigh about 1/6 lbs. each.
Remote Bomb - A brute force weapon great for killing in masses. Its great explosion minimizes the problem of hitting the target, which for this weapon is quite hard. But still a great weapon, that is, if you aren't looking to collect 'intact' skulls.
Energy Flechette - The Predator's Energy Flechette is a low powered, rapid-firing weapon mounted on the Predator's wrist. It proves most effective when defending against several enemies at once. It fires either some type of self-propelled rocket, or more likely a plasma energy bolt.
Dart Launcher – Mounted on the opposite wrist from the Flechette launcher, the dart launcher fires small barbed darts that are about as lethal as a normal bullet.
Mini-Spear Launcher - Mounted on one of the Yautja's wrists, this weapon fires minature versions of the predator spear that are between a few inches to a foot in length.
Burner - This is often carried by Yautja on bug Hunts. The burner is a large, heavy, bulky flame-thrower unit that fires a concentrated flame-stream incinerating anything it comes in contact with, as well as covering them with a napalm-like substance, to ensure continued burning. The range of the flame is 20' and the Burner has a payload of 60, before it needs refueling. The fuel-unit is attached to the back of the Yautja and is fed to the hand-piece/dispenser via hoses. Weighs 30 lbs.
Maul - The Maul is another weapon of personalized design. It may vary greatly in appearance, but its general usage is the same - used in similar style to a sword, but its power is greatly increased by its counter-balanced design. Mostly created from a forged alloy and double-edged, the Maul is capable of being used as a slashing weapon in all arcs of movement; but it can also be spun like the Naginata, to rain a barrage of blows onto a target. Other designs are reminiscent of the 'mace heads' or 'morning stars' of the gladiatorial era - either solid material with protruding spikes, or forged from a metallic alloy and covered in pointed nail-like objects.
Dark Blade Clan Maul - Plasma - forged for unbreakable strength, barbed and honed to a razor - edge, the Dark Blade Clan's personal variant of the Maul is the most vicious melee weapon in the predators aresenal.
Anti-Vehicle Plasma Cannon - A heavy, bazooka-like weapon that fires globs of plasma; designed primarily for dealing with vehicles or extremely gargantuan prey up to 3 miles away; payload of sixty globs. Weighs 175 lbs.
Battle Knife - A last resort weapon, essentially a long knife. Weighs 1/2 lbs.
Self - Destruction Device - There are many uses for the control panel, such as changing vision modes, but the most remembered use is the self-destruct mechanism that can be activated through this device. This weapon of last resort is used by warriors to keep honor when they die. After the device has been set, there is a one-minute countdown until the detonation of a micro-nuclear explosion. Its effective range is measured in kilometers.
