Taken from RPG Chat, if you are the author and you want it removed let me know and I will do so.
[Lesson One: Gun-Usage]
Credits: Written by Shigure`.
1) Obviously this is going to help you fight in the arena, but before I get into my spiel... You should all know that you can't just randomly appear with 600 guns, 8,000 clips of ammunition and twelve hard core elite Green Berets. Roleplaying is exactly what the name implies; it's not about randomly making up NPCs and equipment for those NPCs. If you intend to use weaponry (And this goes for all weapons, as well as magic and basically everything) it's a requirement that there should be some kind of story behind it. Y'know, like.. maybe your friend owns a clan and he gives you equipment. That's alright, so long as it's reasonable. Basically, use common sense and don't mod.
2) Using weapons like guns, aeroplanes, helicopters, NPCs, etc takes a certain style. Not only do you have to know how to work it all effectively, but it requires a lot more work on your part. It is absolutely vital that you know your equipment inside out. In writing, a gun is only as effective as you describe it. You've got to know what it can do, what it can't do and what you should do with it to best maximize your attack; otherwise, you'll have someone firing 70mm bullets out of a Glock 20c. Just be prepared for thorough research.
---
That said, let's get to some examples, and I'll show you what I mean.
Example 1)
"From the halls of Montezuma... to the shores of Tripoli..."
Such a catchy little tune. Shigure himself had never experienced the privelege of attaining the title of United States Marine, but their song you just couldn't help but love. Such pride... honour... devotion to a cause. Admirable, to say the least. So he had committed it to memory in honour of these valiant warriors. It helped calm him at times like this... times where focus was everything; even though these enemies were arrogant, blind and idiotic, things could very well still go wrong. So he continued to half sing, half hum the song as he deftly prepared his field operations post about 45 meters away from the room inside which his friends and enemies prepared to show down. And where ultimately the Triad would emerge victorious.
"We fight our countries' battles in the air, on land, and sea." With the issue of enemy security out of the question due to planning ahead, Shigure was certain he would remain unmolested as he set up to do his work. As he quietly set down the Mp5 Navy he used in close quarters combat Micheal, his pilot, scurried over with a large attaché briefcase, setting it down gently and running back to the helicopter. As Shigure opened it his grin widened. Inside was his custom made SiG 552 all purpose assault rifle. With 5.56mm bullets and 30 round clips it could completely decimate a platoon of well trained troops; let alone one fool sitting behind what he thought was safety. An easy task, especially for someone who thrived on malevolence as Shigure did.
"First to fight for right and freedom; and to keep our honour clean." As his song cut to a close Shigure turned up the radio receptor in his ear, listening to a well thought out and pre-planned speech from his good friend FarSide. A tactic all their own, Shigure waited until he knew he had to take action. Slowly, deliberately he pushed himself against the concrete wall and braced the stock of his weapon to his shoulder. Stryder knew he was there, but it didn't matter; the fool thought he was safe because he believed plexi-glass was bulletproof. Shigure had heard it from FarSide's radio receptor/transmitter. Four crosshairs closed in and lined up in a perfect square at the back of Stryder's head, making for a shot that would not miss even for a rookie sharpshooter; let alone someone as experienced as Shigure. FarSide's speech continued to drag on since Shigure had been ready at its very start, and his crosshairs never had to move since Stryder would have no need to move either. Suddenly there came a a key phrase; vital to their mission, and Shigure braced ready as FarSide spoke the pre-implemented keywords. "As for running. . ."
"We are proud to claim the title... of UNITED STATES MARINE." At that precise moment Shigure depressed the trigger once... twice.. thrice... three single shots and then he depressed the triger for a fourth time, allowing it to remain depressed and spraying shots inside the area of the room he could see; it wouldn't matter though, because that first shot was a guaranteed kill. There would be no way the man could know it was coming, and he had been standing still. The perfect kill.
Click, click, boom.
---
As you can see, I began cradling a gun and ended shooting at someone. When I switched from the 9mm Parabellum, I went into livid detail about my new gun; its purpose, the caliber of its bullets, the name, how many rpc (Rounds per clip) etc. The whole 9 yards. It stops people from coming in with things like "YOUR GUN ISN'T BLAH BLAH. IT'S ONLY BLAH BLAH!!!" You must do your research. Also, when you get to where I fired on the target.. I didn't go "Blam, he was dead." I kept it all up to him; the basics of Orthadox fighting. The thing is, your opponent has to accept the attack himself. All you can do is make the situation that much harder for him to realistically escape. So I advise you to read what I did carefully. I described the way I lined up my shot, (The back of his head) how many times I pulled the trigger to snipe, where the bullets would intend to go, I covered all his angles of escape, and then I let loose with my full barrage. It takes a lot of work to use weapons. ;D
Example 2)
The Bell 205 "Huey" streaked across the sky at 140 knots. Inside each team member sat, nervously fidgeting with the tight restraints that kept them in their seats as the pilot embarked on corkscrew after corkscrew. They cradled H&K G36 rifles in their arms. Kevlar bodysuits were unncessary, but they donned light bullet deflecting armour despite. P7 butts could be seen protruding from 'neath holsters strapped to either shoulders or thighs. All in all they were equipped for light support and assassination missions, and they did their job well. - Today would be no exception. -
As the helicopter screeched in over a low treeline the battle came into full view in the front windows; especially FACTION's AC. The daunting thing was grossly oversized, and completely unnecessary in this sort of thing. "Hey fellas. Think that AC pilot's trying to compensate for something? Heh heh." a burst of laughter erupted forth as they all stared in awe at the work of machinery. It was beautifully crafted and well designed for a heavy assault; something such as this was a vast misuse of its valuable resources. Such a pity.. "Hey Shigure, d'ya hear us?" A voice crackled through, breaking radio silence on the secure channel. It was a breach of protocol, but Shigure would forgive someone like Serge... wouldn't he?
]---
Now this is an example of where I had brought along my light support mercenary group, along with a helicopter acquired through an old clan, andoraTECH. Unfortunately you can't see it, but under the names of my guns (H&K G36, and P7) I had links to pictures, and I had the same thing under the helicopter name. You can see I described what my NPC team's essential role was, how they were armed and dressed, and I also described the way my helicopter approached for a reference to the other players, in case an attack was desired.
Basically, all this wording comes down to this:
Grenades, Guns, Planes, Helicopters; Technology in general can be complicated when applied in battle. It's fun to use those extra toys, but you'd better know what you're doing. Research is absolutely and utterly required, a working knowledge is helpful, and you'd sure as hell better have a good sense of reality. Sorry, but running full speed down a hill, using a PSG-1 sniper rifle to shoot a guy in a plane in the eye just isn't cool. So use common sense, and have some fun with guns.
