Taken from RPG Chat, if you are the author and you want it removed let me know and I will do so.
[Lesson Four: Hand to Hand Combat]

This is simple, guys, so don't worry about it. There are three vital things you must remember when fighting hand to hand.
1.) You are not Goku.
2.) You are not Vegeta.
3.) Your surroundings will ALWAYS be important.
For the first two, a simple explaination ensues. You cannot hit someone three hundred and twenty times within a second, unless of course you ARE one of these people. However, if you ARE one of these people, then you most likely won't get any fights here ANYWAYS. You must always explain how you are doing something during hand to hand combat; if your opponent is swinging from the left, then make note of this in your response.
Because you are not Goku or Vegeta, you cannot -always- dodge hits. That's a simple fact in life, as anyone who has ever gotten into an actual fight knows. If you haven't gotten into a fight, then look at it this way; the Matrix is not real. Your reflexes will naturally not be honed sharp enough to be like...";0 Oh em gee his fist is like, two inches from my face, moving at a velocity of like, oh em gee, twenty miles per hours." That fist is going to TEAR YOUR FACE UP. In a situation like that TAKE the blow. You'll be a better man, woman, or child because of it.
Your surroundings are also important to any fighting style. A fight that occurs in a bar in comparison to a fight on a rainy rooftop will NOT be alike. For example, if you are hit in a bar, you are most likely going to trip up a lot easier because of the tables, pinball machines, pool tables and bar-stools. That would be more of a grapple and throw situation. However, if you were on a rainy rooftop....you wouldn't want to grapple because you would not have traction due to the slippery state of your footing.
Now, for the legalities. Do NOT GODMOD. That means that it is COMPLETELY up to your opponent whether or not he wants to get hit. This seems unfair, but you will get used to it, as it is vice versa. Next, try to make only one or two actions per post. Posts that go on forever but rely constantly on whether the former action worked is dreary, boring, and basically pointless. So, if you want to block and then punch, that's fine. If you want to punch/kick/slap/kick/grab/throw....go play Mortal Kombat 3.
You will notice that broken noses, broken bones, or anything critical like that, will almost never happen in an RPGC fight. That's fine and dandy...but exert realism. Realism is the rule that makes the Orthodox system go round and round; if it can't happen IRL, don't bring it into an RP.
